David W. Cooney was admitted to the Connecticut State and Federal District Court bars in 1978. He is also a member of the Bar of the United States Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Cooney was educated at Rutgers University (B.A., cum laude, 1975) and Wesleyan University (M.A., 1998). He received his law degree from the University of Connecticut in 1978. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity.
Mr. Cooney is a member of the Hartford County Bar Association and has served as Co-Chair of the Association's Continuing Legal Education, Bench-Bar and Civil Litigation Committees. He is also a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and its Committees on Professional Discipline and Arbitration of Fee Disputes, as well as the American Bar Association. Mr. Cooney serves on the Board of Governors and the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, The Roscoe Pound Foundation and The Federal Bar Council. Mr. Cooney is certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
He has chaired and lectured at Connecticut Bar Association and Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association presentations on a variety of topics, including Product Liability Law, Uninsured Motorist Law, Civil Discovery, Insurance Law and Litigation and Tort Legislation. He also presently serves as an Arbitrator/Factfinder and a Special Master for the State Superior Court , and he has been appointed to serve as a Special Master by the United States District Court. Mr. Cooney is an Instructor at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he teaches a course on Trial Advocacy.
