How Safe is Your Car? New Car Accident Tests Reveal

Consumers who purchase luxury vehicles have an expectation of quality.  They alsoHow Safe is Your Car? have expectations as to the safety of the vehicles.

Surprisingly – recent new crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety show that most midsized luxury cars flunk those tests.  In most cases – badly.  Only the Acura TL, Volvo S60 and Infiniti G scored good or acceptable ratings. “Marginal” or “Poor” scores were posted for the Acura TSX, BMW 3 Series, Lincoln MKZ , Volkswagen CC, Mercedes C-Class, Lexus IS 250 and ES 350 and Audi A4.

The new crash test was designed to mimic the effect of a 40 mile an hour crash where the front 25% of the car hits a stationary object – like a tree.  The good news is that these test results may lead to improvements in car design.

So which vehicles are the safest?

Not all cars have been tested using the new test just performed on midsized luxury cars.  Based on the four original crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety – here are the safest vehicles on the road (**notice that list now includes vehicles that performed poorly on the new test):
